Germany auctions € 317 worth of EUAs

German government auctioned around 22,6 million European Union Allowances (EUAs) to the value of almost € 317 million in the first half of 2010.

The average price for EUAs, which were sold in auctions on the European Energy Exchange (EEX) in Leipzig was € 14.01, said German Emissions Trading Authority (DEHSt) in a report.

Of the total auction volume, around 14.8 million EUAs to the value of € 208,6 million were auctioned on the futures market and 7,8 million EUAs to the value of 108,4 on the spot market.

The average auction price for the December 2010 EUA futures contract was € 14.08 while for the EUA spot contract € 13.89.

In the second phase of the European Emissions Trading Scheme (2008-2012), Germany sells 40 million EUAs annually, which means that around 17.4 million EUAs is left to be auctioned by this country in the second half of 2010.

However, EUAs from the national reserve will be auctioned additionally, and a decision on their volume will be announced in November, said DEHSt.
