Air pollution
Problem type: Air pollution in Cracow City

Project Overview – Emission Inventories from Industrial Sites
During nineties Cracow city, one of the biggest, oldest and the most beautiful cities in Poland had serious problems with air pollution. The problem was increasing to a level that could become dangerous for the future of the city and its inhabitants.
ATMOTERM® was contracted to carry out an emission investigation in a number of industrial plants throughout Cracow.

What We Did
ATMOTERM® identified over 180 major plants. Representatives from these plants were trained to use client-tailored questionnaires concerning emission from their sources, and were given software tools to increase the efficiency of data collection and processing.

Project results included an emission database for the city of Cracow that was used to perform dispersion modeling, to assess the city’s concentration levels of pollutants.

The next step in this process was to extend the scope of the data into low-level communal sources and transportation.
Contribution of different emission sources to overall air pollution was determined as well.

In all aspects of the project ATMOTERM® designed SOZAT© software application was used together with knowledge of our emission inventory specialists.

Results
The new and unique aspect of this project was its methodological approach in involving industrial plants in their own data collection.
Thanks to SOZAT© system and our specialists Cracow City obtained the strategy for environmental improvement and environmental management system which solved air pollution problem.
